Play these fun games of language repetition with your baby, and you will find that you are learning too. You’ll have someone to practise your new language with too.

Other websites such as www.bbc.co.uk offer free online language courses for adults, but our website is probably the only one to encourage adults and kids to learn languages together.

And don’t worry if your toddler seems to pick it up easier than you do. They’re made for learning languages, but we adults can learn too.

So put your child in the driver’s seat in front of the computer and learn a new language together. We recommend that you maximize the browser window to make it easier for her, so that wherever she clicks, it will be inside the game screen.

A download version of 12 of these games is available for purchase for $16. They’re even better because you can play the games forever offline and they’re not run through a browser.

“What’s Going On In There? How the Brain and Mind Develop in the First Five Years of Life” by Lise Eliot

Research into baby's language development, as reported in Lise Eliot’s “What’s Going On In There? How the Brain and Mind Develop in the First Five Years of Life”, reports that exposing a baby to another language increases his ability to master that foreign language later.

Trends in Bilingual Acquisition (Trends in Language Acquistion Research)

Research carried out at McGill University in the bilingual Canadian city of Montréal has exploded myths about babies learning more than one language, and has come to the following conclusions:

  • Bilingual children do NOT have delayed language acquisition.
  • Learning more than one language at a time is NOT difficult for small children.
  • Bilingual children DO master both languages just as well as one.

...testimonials about KiddiesGames

“Callum loves them. He played for 10 minutes straight, particularly the alphabet one. Callum doesn't play at anything for that long except for Wiggles videos. He loved repeating the letters and words. He also liked finding the D on the keyboard so he could bring up the dog.”

Sophie, Mother of Callum, 2 years old

Reviews of Spanish resources

We have kids learning Spanish too. Here are more useful, fun, effective resources for small chilren learning Spanish, available at Amazon.com.

bilingual children’s book in Spanish and English: Clothes / La ropa
<<< browse or buy at Amazon

Simple, cheerful, color pictures of teddy bears with familiar objects and one word per page with a pronunciation guide at the end. These bilignual Barron books for preliterate preschoolers would be irreprochable in idea and in execution even if they were in only one language. The fact that they introduce a small child and her caregiver to a foreign language adds a whole new dimension to the learning gained when sharing these first books. After a few of these books though, you and your preschooler will both be ready for the next level of stories in Barron’s Educational Series.
Bilingual Baby video: Spanish
browse or buy at Amazon >>>

Close-up filming of happy babies doing such interesting every-day activities just like your baby does. No wonder babies are mesmerized by the Bilingual Baby videos. On top of that, this video exposes babies to the sounds of another language, and teaches them the concept that things have names.

Sara Jordan’s children’s music: French

Bright, happy, catchy songs, sung in both English and French. They are produced by Sara Jordan, a teacher and mother who knows that kids are programmed to learn through song, and are programmed to enjoy song. The quality of the recordings are impeccable.
bilingual children’s book in French and English: Hurry Up, Molly / Dépêche-toi, Molly
browse or buy at Amazon >>>

The Barron’s Educational Series of bilingual stories for children are always fun, bright, cheery, simple, easy and effective. They seemed to be specifically designed for children learning a foreign language in a school setting, introducing the foreign language in such an amusing and easy way. Subject matter that kids find interestingly amusing and carefully constructed story flow to introduce and re-introduce foreign vocabulary in an unobtrusively easy way. These stories are short and simple enough to be enjoyed by children under the age of 5. The best way for a child to learn another language is to be immersed in an environment speaking that language. The second-best way is to get the Barron bilingual books and tapes.

We’re adding new interesting games all the time, so check this page often.

...parenting tip of the moment

Children become very aware of what their parents think of them, and this affects what they think of themselves. A child who is regarded as bright and successful will tend to live up to this image. A child who is thought of as stupid will come to think of himself as a failure, especially when faced with problems.

quoted from "Head Start: How to Develop Your Child's Mind"
by Robert Fisher, page 20

Small children should be supervised by a caregiver when at a computer, to ensure no accidents occur that could hurt the child and that no equipment gets broken.
